Scope of this policy

This policy applies to T&C Plain Language Summarizer (CoT), a Chrome extension that explains Terms of Service, Privacy Policies, and similar legal pages in plain language. It describes what the extension processes when you choose Analyze Current Page's T&Cs and what it does not collect.

Page text you choose to analyze

The extension can inspect the visible text of the active webpage after you open it and request an analysis. It does not send page text merely because you visit a webpage or install the extension. The extension may have a page listener present so the popup can request text, but that listener returns text only in response to an analysis request.

The extension truncates the selected text to at most 60,000 characters before sending it to the service. Page text is sent to a Cloudflare Worker proxy, which forwards the analysis request to Google Gemini and returns the generated summary. The page text may include anything visible on the page, so do not analyze confidential information unless you are comfortable sending it to these services.

Local Chrome storage

The extension creates a random anonymous installation ID and stores it in Chrome's extension storage. That ID is sent with analysis requests to apply fair-use limits; it is not your name, email address, or account identifier.

The extension stores daily usage counters and up to 20 cached summaries in Chrome's extension storage. Cached summaries expire after up to seven days and can allow a repeat analysis of the same page text without another AI request. This data stays on your device unless Chrome synchronizes extension storage under your own Chrome settings.

Network and quota information

The proxy receives ordinary request metadata, including your IP address, to enforce abuse-prevention limits. It stores only a truncated, one-way hash of the IP address in short-lived usage counters; those counters expire within two days. The proxy also receives the anonymous installation ID and the analysis request needed to provide the service.

The extension and proxy enforce daily and short-term limits so one installation or network cannot consume the shared service quota. These limits reset according to the service's Pacific Time schedule.

How information is used

Information is used only to analyze the legal text you requested, return and cache the summary, maintain fair-use limits, and prevent abuse. The extension does not use page text or request metadata for advertising, credit decisions, or profiling, and it does not sell or rent that information.

Service providers

The extension uses Cloudflare Workers to proxy requests and Google Gemini to generate summaries. The page text and prompt needed for an analysis are transmitted to those services for that purpose. Their own privacy policies, retention practices, and service terms may also apply to their processing.

Information we do not request

The extension does not ask for or maintain your name, email address, password, payment details, contacts, precise location, or health information. It has no account system, does not sell data, and does not build a browsing-history profile across sites. If such information is visible in a page you choose to analyze, it can be included in the text sent for that analysis.

Your choices

You can choose not to analyze a page. You can remove the extension or clear its stored data through Chrome to delete the locally cached summaries, usage counters, and installation ID. Summaries or page text already sent to a service may be subject to that provider's retention practices and cannot be recalled by the extension.

Security and changes

The Gemini API key is kept in the server-side proxy rather than in the extension package. Reasonable safeguards are used, but no security measure is perfect. Do not submit highly sensitive information unless you are comfortable with the page text being processed by the configured AI service.

We may update this policy when the extension's data practices change. The effective date below identifies the current version.
